The Emergency Management Agency is the coordinating entity for emergency planning and preparedness activities for Thomaston and Upson County. The agency maintains and operates the Emergency Operations Center where local government officials, heads of emergency response and support departments and non-government organizations would meet and conduct response and recovery operations in the event a major emergency or disaster should strike our community. Coordination of all State and Federal agencies that could be called upon for assistance in response and recovery operations is the responsibility of the Emergency Management Agency.
The agency has the responsibility for the development of a number of emergency plans that would be implemented if necessary. These include the local Emergency Operations Plan, Severe Weather Operations Plan and the Warning Plan.
